I was playing a game from my childhood: Pick the most intresting rock you can find from any given place in time and try to imagine how it got there. What fun are games if we never play them?
December of that same year, my Dad handed me an obscure scientific article written about Kirk French (Penn State University) and his discoveries in South America. Spent the next few years playing in the mud and waters of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina.
Geologically speaking, I just got here.
June 28th, 1540
Hernando de Soto, his 600+ man army and his cartographer(s) departed Chiaha on June 28th, 1540. By all accounts, this date is the one fact they can all agree. Three states in the USA claim to have found the lost city. Tennesse puts the location at the bottom of a really big lake.
By one account, the man tasked with converting the sherpas to christianity took off with a local girl. They ran forty hectares to the north of Chiaha and dissapeared.
I like that story.
